What is Corruption?

When a government is created to help and protect its people, it is supposed to follow laws, respect social rules, act ethically, and have the support of its citizens. Corruption happens when a leader ignores these basic rules and instead makes choices that help themselves but hurt the public.

This short quiz is meant to help you better understand political corruption. Think of a real person you believe may have acted in a corrupt way (or make up a fictional scenario), then answer the questions that follow.

A few important things to remember:

  • This quiz is only about government and political corruption. While corruption can happen in other areas—like schools, businesses, or charities—those are not included in this quiz.

  • A person doesn't have to break a law or get caught to be corrupt. Someone can still act unethically even if they were never arrested or convicted.

  • This quiz doesn't compare one corrupt person to another. Even though some corruption may be worse than others, for this quiz, corruption is corruption.
